Our second annual Art & Spirit BHUTAN Tour has returned! O, what wonders did we see, what adventures had we! From the quite sublime — especially renowned Chef David Thompson’s exquisite classical Thai cuisine at Restaurant nahm in Bangkok — to the rather ridiculous, when Kay tripped and broke her nose walking into — not out of! — a bar…not to mention an accidental attack by a fruit bat. We toured Muscat, Oman’s Grand Mosque and ancient souk (marketplace) in old (but progressive) Arabia. We saw the palaces and canals of Bangkok and toured Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam, and sat with one of Thailand’s true Buddhist masters. Then we spent two weeks visiting Bhutan’s most luminous temples,
hiking its lowlands and highlands, bird and monkey watching, visiting handicrafts schools, sampling Bhutanese red rice and redder chilies!, and sitting with one of the country’s most luminous Buddhist masters, Rev. Ngwang Tenzin Rinpoche of the Paro Valley where we happened to meet American Buddhist luminary Robert Thurman who merrily chatted away with Rev. Tenzin in Tibetan.
