A client of mine recommended this book. I wasn’t too excited to read it from her description, but decided to read it anyhow as I knew she would be asking me about the book. To my surprise, I could not put this book down. It is entertaining, inspiring, spiritual, informative, fair, and simply one of the best books that I have ever read (I read a book a week) Since, I have purchased several copies to loan out to my clients. Thank you Jessica Maxwell for your contribution to the betterment of humanity and for opening my eyes to better understanding the Muslim religion and spirituality around the world. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
In a special report, http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/religion/july-dec11/christmas_12-23.html on Dec 24, 2011, the PBS NewsHour featured Jessica’s 87-year-old father-in-law, Hank Andersen, star of the “The Christmas Soldier” chapter in Roll Around Heaven. Footage from a special interview with Hank is interspersed with compelling commentary by Jessica’s brother-in-law, Tim Hart-Andersen, minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. The NewsHour report is built around Tim’s play based on his father’s 1944 Christmas Eve experience (Tom and Jessica are in the audience — you can spot Jessica, lower right, in the bright green sweater!) In the middle of the night, the troop ship, the Leopoldville, that was carrying Hank and some 2,000 other soldiers across the English Channel, was torpedoed by a German U-boat. Hank and some 150 others survived because he had just led them above decks to sing Christmas carols minutes before the torpedo hit. The power-punch in “The Christmas Soldier” chapter, Tim’s Play, and the NewsHour report is the presence of Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist, Gail Rosenblum, whose father also survived the sinking of the Leopoldville. “I’m a Jewish girl who has always loved Christmas carols,” she says. “When I heard the story of Hank, I felt like I now understood why I love them. They saved my father’s life.” “The human spirit,” sums up Tim, “can sing its way through anything.” Happy New Year !
The photos are in! Our wonderful RAH! Photographer, Richard A. Herman, managed to capture the uncapturable. The joy of dancing in the field where the coyote paced. The excitement of the arrival of His Holiness and his powerful 11-11-11 Blessing in the ranch sanctuary. The astonishing light in the eyes of this deeply realized teacher who so graced us with his peace-filled presence. He may join us at the ranch next year, too. Stay tuned!

This review is from: Roll Around Heaven: An All-True Accidental Spiritual Adventure (Paperback)
Adventure and spirituality are not two words you might normally link together. But this author, a travel writer, shows how spirituality can be adventurous. God can be fun! It makes sense that someone who loves to explore the universe which God created would ultimately stumble upon God Him/Herself. A loving, joyous, open, adventurous heart like the author has would start seeing God in her day-to-day surroundings and experiences. As the Beatitude says, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”
I’ve come to realize that our spirituality is an expression of our individuality. We each have a style so to speak–an explorer/adventurer will find God to be an adventure. We need more books like this one that shows us spirituality can be fun. If we have infinite intelligence, power and creativity in our Partner, God, who is like our best friend and is always with us, shouldn’t we be having a much better time here on earth?
The author shows us how she was receptive to God’s guidance and companionship in her life on her travels and path. Our path won’t be exactly the same, but we can learn from hers–listen and be open to God’s messages and direction. I didn’t want this book to end and when it was over I wanted to start it all over again. It is a merry jaunt which gladdens the heart. And it will get you to recall how God has spoken to you in your life–what is your spiritual history as the holy Pig Farmer asked.
It makes sense that the divine Creator is creative with the stuff of our every day lives in answering prayers. As one of my favorite writers on spirituality wrote: Life is “Love’s divine adventure to be All-in-all.”
If you like the idea of spirituality being an adventure that you’re having with God and that it can be joyous and fun, you’ll absolutely love this book. I’d give it 10 stars if I could. It’s that original, fresh, lively, amusing and deep. Looking forward to a sequel. “ Oink-you, L. M. Keefer!

“I loved, loved, loved the workshop! Connecting with a group of like-minded spiritual people made the workshop that more powerful. Jessica always has the most exciting information for us and her attention to detail for ceremony gave power to it all. I saw some areas to be healed and I was able to go toward the healing. I’m still high from it. Something has shifted. Thanks Jessica! -Debbie Lee, Salem, OR 11/11/11
“Jessica has a sincere desire to touch the lives of each one of us. She is a force of nature and amazing to watch. It’s her attention to quality-of-life details that so enriched the environment of our RAH! Workshop at Ghost Ranch. Four tablecloths??!! Silver tea set? Chocolate piggies and “enlightened” RAH cookie fixings? In these ways she makes each of us feel like her honored guest.. Whether walking the labyrinth as a group in that most ancient tradition or singing sacred songs outside embraced by the crimson mesas, she gently held us in holy space.. Thank you, Jessica, for sharing all your spiritual gifts with all of us!” – Colleen Samuel, Salem, OR
“I was absolutely flying with love, openness and joy by the fourth night of the workshop…plus, I felt I received a personal blessing from His Holiness of Bhutan — what an absolutely, lovely, loving, joyous surprise his visit was! I’ve remained so open and free that new awarenesses keep popping into my consciousness. What a beautiful gift!” – Liz Hill, Albuquerque, New Mexico
“Thank you, Jessica, for your spirit and hard work to bring forth healing with your divinely inspired book, and for your willingness to share your divine healing intervention with us and with the world. The RAH! Workshop was was a holy gathering. I so needed the healing.” — Janice Sutton, Asheville, North Carolina
“I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful week you planned for us at Ghost Ranch. It’s so much fun reflecting on how this changes you. It was so great!! When we showed my daughter a photo of His Holiness she burst into tears. She said she just looked at him and she had no control over her feelings. It was just pure joy. Wow! I feel elevated to another level.” -- Cindy Johnson, Salem, OR
